“Hospice” Performance
The New Play Hospice Answers the Question: What’s More Important than Life and Death? Secrets!
In Hospice, playwright Elizabeth Coplan creates the story of a dying woman and her immediate family. The play deals with end of life, death and secrets no one should ever have to take to the grave. Rebecca Tourino Collinsworth directs. The cast features
Adult daughters Lucy and Anne come to visit their Mom, Mary. They plan to go to Disneyland for a few days, a little vacation for just the three of them, like they used to do. But Mary’s cancer is no longer in remission. It’s clear the only reason to go is t that “it’s on the calendar.” After all, Mom lives and dies by the calendar and her final day is filled with the usual: drugs, sex, pain, secrets, lies, and regrets.
Hospice deals with loss and love, guilt and good intentions, needs and wishes in a sea of humanity.
In the end, death is the great equalizer. Never one ever escapes! And we are left to wonder: How should I live the last of our days?

Parley, a new home for playwrights in Seattle, was created in 2014 by Rebecca Tourino Collinsworth, who teaches playwriting at Freehold Theatre Lab. Parley is a hybrid writing workshop and production entity that meets weekly. Parley invests deeply in its associate playwrights and sustains its support of them over months and years: from the false starts and tender beginnings of a scene to the completed manuscript and on through casting, rehearsal, revision, production, and beyond. Parley produced 12 world premieres in 2016 alone. Parley’s process is unique in Seattle.
Parley is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike. Shunpike is the 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that provides independent arts groups in Washington State with the services, resources, and opportunities they need to forge their own paths to sustainable success.
