Physicians employed or on contract with Legacy may discuss the patients wishes and may serve as a "consulting" physician, but should refer the patients seeking Death with Dignity services to a physician not employed/contracted with Legacy.

If a patient desires to end his/her life under the Act in a Legacy Hospital, the patient must formally notify the Legacy hospital where they are receiving care of their participation under the Act and provide the hospital with the necessary documentation. Without appropriate notice and documentation, any Death with Dignity medication brought to the hospital by the patient will be confiscated and any patient who ingests such medication will be resuscitated.
